ISO/TC 209 released its first Technical Report in 2023 to help clarify information regarding airborne particle counting provided in Parts 1 and 2 of ISO 14644. It also intends to dispel observed issues of misuse and misunderstanding of key sections of these standards with regard to airborne particle sampling.

About the Authors

John Hargreaves, convenor of ISO/TC 209 WG 15, is owner and principal of JHAC, a cleanroom and clean process engineering consultancy based in France. He has been active since 1984 over a broad range of clean and containment applications. Involved from the start in international standard work for cleanrooms (CEN since 1990 and, subsequently, ISO), he has been a French delegate to ISO/TC209 since 1993, and an expert contributor to many of the EN ISO 14644 standards, particularly Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4, and former ISO 14698. He has led industry expert group comments on past and recent versions of EU GMP regulations, and also the recent French compounding regulations (BPP).
