Specifications and standards need to be developed, and specialists from the environmental sciences with knowledge and skills are valuable resources.

Security and environmental controls, as well as reliable, redundant connectivity and electric power must be monitored and evaluated periodically. Industry standards must be developed to achieve the high level of performance for mission-critical Internet applications.
